In the fast paced world of today moral values is a neglect entity in schools and it is hurting our students and causing problems in society. We at Al-Furqan English Higher Secondary School know that moral values are the cornerstone of life and if character is lost then everything is lost. In order for our children to know and learn and experience life in total, Al-Furqan has made moral education part of its curriculum and has a very active Moral and Arabic club.
As we all know knowledge gained in school is only one goal of education. The primary goal of education is enabling students to gain knowledge and moral values. At Al-Furqan children are given extra preparation through our club to be good parents and citizens in society. It’s amazing the amount of math and science knowledge we have forgotten since school days. We haven’t, however, forgotten moral value lessons learned in school.
If all parents were teaching their children moral values at home, it would not be necessary for the schools to do this work, The sad fact is that a lot of kids are not learning from their parents the difference between right and wrong. This is because most mothers and fathers in their busy work days spend only a few hours with their children. In many families, there is only one parent and no other role models for kids to follow.
Everyday students are exposed to violence, dishonesty, and other social problems in the media and the real world. How many times have we heard about school shootings? What about other times when students are caught cheating on exams? Then, too, we read about bullying in school and fights between gangs. If moral values were taught in schools, we would have fewer of these problems.
At Al-Furqan EHSS it is the effort of our moral and Arabic club to inculcate the following qualities in each and every student of our school:
- Unconditional Love and Kindness.
- Honesty.
- Hard Work.
- Respect For Others.
- Co-operation.
- Compassion.
- Forgiveness.
